What Are the Different Types of Dental Treatment?

Read Time:3 Minute, 0 Second

Dental science is one of the latest and greatest ways to improve your overall health. Dentistry, often called dental medicine and dental surgery, consists of the discipline of study, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and early identification of mental disorders, diseases, and abnormalities of the mouth. Dental science also incorporates the science of biomedicine, which studies the relationships between systemic disease and health. Dentistry is the most comprehensive of allopathic medicine. It aims to provide optimal patient care by integrating diagnosis, treatment and preventive measures. It helps prevent disease and disability through a comprehensive approach that encompasses prevention, assessment, elimination, treatment, and maintenance of good oral health.

In the United States, there are many options available for patients seeking quality dental services. Depending on insurance coverage, dental clinics may be able to offer standard therapies and procedures at a low cost or an affordable plan that allows you to choose the type of services you need and the level of service you desire. Some dental clinics offer a wide range of services from routine preventative care to cosmetic procedures for those patients who have smiles that they like but do not want to pay for these treatments out of pocket. Many insurance plans require that you meet certain criteria in order to receive these services, so you will want to do some careful shopping before committing to a private practice.

One common treatment provided at a dental clinic is tooth extraction and dental implants. Tooth extraction, or tooth pulling, is the removal of a tooth or teeth using a scalpel to remove them from your mouth. The extracted teeth are then placed in porcelain or on the bite lift of a removable denture device. After a few weeks, your permanent teeth will be created by attaching the prosthetic teeth to your natural teeth. Dental implants are artificial teeth, molars, or root canals that are anchored into the jaw bone and permanently glued into place to create a permanent tooth or a bridge, as needed.

Another type of treatment provided at a dental clinic is dentures. A patient suffering from missing teeth may replace missing teeth with comfortable and removable dentures, which look and feel like real teeth. Dental prosthetics are similar to dentures, except they are designed to last a lifetime. Dentures are made up of a synthetic replica of a tooth root and the crown is attached to the front surface of the tooth, creating a false tooth. These devices are worn for a lifetime, and if properly cared for, last a very long time. Some dental prosthetics are made to replicate a complete set of teeth.

If you are missing more than one tooth, you may qualify for partial or full dental coverage. In California, the coverage for full coverage will pay for all of your dental care, regardless of your income. Partial coverage is available in California only. However, many qualified individuals receive payment incentives for purchasing dental plans. If you are interested in obtaining partial coverage, contact your state insurance department to find out what benefits you could qualify for. You can also talk to an independent dental provider in your area to find out how you can reduce the cost of your dental care.

Finally, there is the dental crown. The dental crown is the most common type of restoration used in dental implants. The dentist creates a mold of your tooth using CT scans, then uses a dental crown to fully restore the tooth. Dental crowns are made to look like natural teeth and come in a variety of styles, including traditional bridges and denture bridges.
