Acne is one of the most common skin disorders in both men and women. It can affect any part of the body, but more often appears on the face, neck, shoulders, chest, back, and shoulder area. Noninflammatory acne refers to nonclogged, pimple-free pores which appear as whiteheads or blackheads. It is the simplest form and is sometimes easy to identify. Whiteheads have a pale white appearance and are usually easy to spot due to their singular size and dark appearance.

Blackheads have a black, puffy appearance and are much harder to treat than whiteheads. If left untreated, they can lead to severe scarring if they clog easily. Redness is also a common sign of acne and appears as a raised area on the skin with a noticeable redness around the infected area. Redness can be light to dark and can range from a slight redness to a very noticeable redness.

Scars caused by acne include ice pick scars (which look like an ice pick piercing), rolling scars, hypertrophic scars, someone scars, and pustule scars. In addition, cystic acne produces a red papule that is filled with pus and causes intense pain. Acne has the potential to produce large amounts of pus which, if left untreated, can drain into surrounding tissues and blood vessels. This can result in gangrene and eventually death.

Most people with acne have oily skin types, which is what leads to the majority of acne breakouts. Oily skin types are more prone to hyperpigmentation, which can make acne worse. Excess oil production causes the pores to become clogged, causing the inflammation and redness associated with acne. The best way to reduce the likelihood of having a breakout is to keep the face clean and as dry as possible.

If you do have acne breakouts, there are a few ways to reduce the chances of a severe breakout occurring. The first is to limit the amount of makeup. If you have oily skin, this is even more important. Makeup often clogs up the pores, making it easier for acne bacteria to multiply and cause a breakout. You should also avoid wearing tight clothing and swimsuits as much as possible.

Another good way to prevent pimples and blackheads from forming is to exfoliate your skin daily. This removes dead skin cells which can gather and block pores and contribute to the formation of pimples and blackheads. In addition, exfoliating can help remove dead skin cells which can collect under the surface of your skin, creating the perfect environment for bacteria to multiply. Lastly, keep your hair away from your face as much as possible, because your face is often the source of sweat which also contains bacteria.
